More than 39,000 people gathered on Zoom to watch Vogue’s inaugural Vogue Global Conversations series earlier this month. Vogue editors from around the world interviewed designers including Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney and business leaders such as Balenciaga’s Cedric Charbit and Moncler’s Remo Ruffini. The discussions ranged wide and far, with some, like Olivier Rousteing, imagining the potential for a digital fashion show and others, like Virgil Abloh, advocating for more collaboration within the industry. Following the success of the initial conversations, Vogue Global Conversations is returning in May with a new slate of editors and panelists. The conversations, produced with the VogueGlobal Network and Vogue Runway, will take place on May 6 and 7 on Zoom.
On May 6, American Vogue’s editor in chief and Condé Nast’s U.S. artistic director and global content advisor Anna Wintour and Vogue Taiwan’s editor in chief Leslie Sun will host a two-part panel titled, “Creativity During the Crisis.” Wintour will speak with Maison Margiela’s John Galliano about the brand’s history of sustainability and upcycling, while Sun will moderate a conversation with Simone Rocha, Marine Serre, and 3.1 Phillip Lim CEO Wen Zhou about operating independent labels during challenging times.
On May 7, Vogue Paris’s editor in chief Emmanuelle Alt and Vogue Mexico’s editor in chief Karla Martinez will discuss the idea of “Reinvention During the Crisis.” Alt will be joined by Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli to talk about the importance of rethinking fashion and communication during this pandemic, while Martinez will speak with Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, Simon Porte Jacquemus of Jacquemus, and Francesco Risso of Marni about leading a new generation of designers who are making the rules as they go.
We hope you will join us and take part in our next round of Vogue Global Conversations. As with last month’s discussions, questions can be submitted for our designer guests over Zoom. We look forward to hearing from even more of you during round two.
