BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Dec. 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retail chain in the United States, today announced a new goal to reduce carbon emissions from its facilities by 25 percent (measured by market-based Scope 1 and 2 emissions in metric tons CO2e emissions per square foot) by 2025 from its 2015 baseline as a part of the Company’s Stewardship Program.
Tractor Supply’s Stewardship Program was launched in 2008 as a reflection of its commitment to doing the right thing for its customers and the communities it serves. Since that time, the Company has taken a number of important steps to reduce its impact on the environment. Examples of these initiatives include:Converting the internal lighting in all stores to more environmentally friendly LED lightingImplementing energy management systems in all storesReplacing older HVAC systems in stores with high-efficiency unitsAdopting recycling programs in Tractor Supply stores, distribution centers and its Store Support Center“At Tractor Supply, we are continually looking for ways to minimize our impact on the environment, and we’re proud to announce our goal of reducing carbon emissions from our stores, distribution centers and Store Support Center,” said Ben Parrish, Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Tractor Supply, who leads the Company’s Stewardship Program. “This goal will help us achieve our Stewardship vision of producing healthy environments, properly managing resources and promoting vibrant communities.”Tractor Supply continues to make substantial investments in projects that reduce carbon emissions as well as expenses. A recent example is Tractor Supply’s decision to convert the fluorescent lighting in all of its stores to more environmentally friendly LED lighting. Completed last year, this chain-wide project is reducing electricity consumption and expenses in Tractor Supply stores by approximately 30 percent and has virtually eliminated the costs associated with bulb replacement. Additionally, Tractor Supply has constructed two energy- and resource-efficient LEED® Silver Certified facilities including its Store Support Center in Brentwood, Tenn. (260,000 square feet) and its distribution center in Casa Grande, Ariz. (650,000 square feet). The Company’s newest distribution center, which began receiving product this month, in Frankfort, N.Y.
