Tetris 40th Anniversary
The classic Tetris game celebrates their 40 year anniversary in 2024. Created in 1984 from the imagination of computer programmer Alexey Pajitno, the puzzle game took the world by a storm for its addictive effect and mental stimulation. Today, billions of Tetris games are played online every year and over 520 million units have been sold worldwide. To commemorate the game’s global success and the memories that they have created throughout many childhoods, the Colin Birch window at the Fashion Institute of Technology on 7th Ave dedicated a temporary display for Tetris. In the window, a giant illuminated 40 made out of over 350 acrylic boxes shaped in Tetris blocks is hung to highlight 40 years of Tetris. The surrounding walls are a perspective grid pattern alluding to the space-like style of 80s arcade games. The proscenium is illuminated with 8 light boxes, highlighting the colorful and vibrant Tetris blocks. This project was done by me, Angela Zhu and my groupmates, Tifmarcelle Louie, Yuqing Chen, Kailey Ortiz, and with the help of our professor Glenn Sokoli
