The popular designer will stamp his minimalist aesthetic on a collection in stores from June.
Nike is teaming up with Jacquemus to launch a minimalist-inspired range of womenswear with the sportswear brand’s Humara trail shoe and nineties campaigns front-of-mind for the French designer. The collection will be available from 28 June exclusively via Jacquemus’s e-commerce site and Nike stores, and will include unisex footwear.
“For this collaboration with Nike, I wanted to create a collection that reinterprets athletic women’s sportswear in a minimal way,” a statement from designer Simon Porte Jacquemus reads. “With this imagery in mind, we designed women’s athletic wear with sensuous details and neutral colours. It was important for the collection to be accessible for all bodies, and to be a natural blend of Jacquemus style and Nike performance.”
By partnering with Jacquemus — which is known for it-bag Le Chiquito and buzzy social media moments such as the recent Le Bleu bathroom-themed pop-up in Selfridges and the Spring 2022 show in Hawaii — Nike will tap the French brand’s wide following and colourful aesthetic. Experts say the women’s division of sportswear has huge potential for growth. For Jacquemus, the collaboration will allow the designer to experiment with his love for sportswear.
The collaboration has been in the works since 2018, according to British Vogue. Rumours of the collaboration arose in September 2021, when Nike shoes were worn in the Jacquemus Family Love campaign.
“Collaboration at Nike, and with partners like Jacquemus, allows us to expand the culture of sport and redefine it for the next generation,” says Nike VP of catalyst apparel design Jarrett Reynolds.
