The 46th annual Macy’s Flower Show opened on Sunday, transforming the Herald Square store into a whimsical floral oasis. This year’s theme, Give. Love. Bloom., aims to inspire hope for New Yorkers after a tough year with grand gardens, flower displays, and larger-than-life butterflies taking over the store, the iconic windows, and even outside, at Herald Square Park.
Expect the unexpected from the show, with florals blooming on countertops and mannequins, as well across structures like bridges and topiaries. Designed to make social distancing easy, many of the displays will be hanging.
For the first time ever, the show continues outside with a display at Herald Square Park. In collaboration with the 34th Street Partnership, Macy’s decorated the park with “lush arches and planters brimming with bright hues,” according to a press release.
The window displays facing Broadway have been decked out with stunning pastel-colored petals. Other highlights include The Kaleidoscope of Courage, an aerial trellis with weeping pink cherry trees and colorful butterflies, The Basking Butterfly Bridge, a massive butterfly made of blue delphinium, The Aviary of Aspiration, a sky-high garden with birdcages filled with orchids, and much more.
“The 2021 Macy’s Flower Show will feature magnificently landscaped gardens inspired by the feeling of hope for a brighter year ahead,” Rick Pomer, creative director, Macy’s Flower Show, said.
“Give. Love. Bloom. will awe spectators, kicking off the spring season with an immersive, floral spectacular that will delight the senses. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors and pedestrians to our magical floral oasis where the resilient spirit of the city will be in full bloom.”
The Flower Show will be on view at the flagship store through May 16, 2021. You can explore the displays virtually here.
