WindowsWear got an exclusive first-hand look at Louis Vuitton’s newest literary venture.
Whether it’s in Paris, Tokyo, Sydney or New York City the window displays of visual innovators Louis Vuitton have long set the standard for storefronts worldwide. They dazzle with elements of whimsy and spectacle From a lifelike waxwork of Yayoi Kusama marooned amidst tendrils of polka dots, to gold-plated dinosaurs roaming the wilds and vitrines designed with acclaimed artists Daniel Buren and Frank Gehry. This kaleidoscope of variety not only showcases the seasons best, these windows enact the fantasy tied to the collections and provide blockbuster production value.
This fall Louis Vuitton has taken over 35 of their revered window displays from stage to page in a new 168 page art book entitled Louis Vuitton Windows published by Assouline.
Featuring an introduction by The New York Times Fashion Director and critic Vanessa Friedman and notes by Visual Creative Director Faye McLeod and Ansel Thompson, Louis Vuitton Windows gives readers a glimpse into the magic of these lauded and sophisticated windows.

WindowsWear was on hand at the launch party for Louis Vuitton Windows held at the illustrious Spring Studios in Tribeca. Guests were invited to flip through the beautiful hand-bound oversized book with the assistance of French maids (a cheeky homage to the Fall/Winter 2011 ‘Maid in Paris’ windows) who adorned guests with white gloves to keep the book smudge free.
Other homages to prior Louis Vuitton windows were on display at Spring Studios, including the iconic rainbow LV Monogram surrounding the DJ Booth, famed film director Sophia Coppolas famous red cherries “garnishing” the bar, and a life sized statue of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama with her playful polka dots. This thoughtful retrospective of windows past and present solidify Louis Vuittons innovation in both the fashion and visual world.
Louis Vuitton Windows is currently available in Assouline boutiques worldwide.
