Louis Vuitton Celebrates Nike “Air Force 1” By Virgil Abloh With New York Exhibition

Louis Vuitton will showcase a piece of Virgil Abloh’s legacy in an exhibition dedicated to the late men’s artistic director’s long-anticipated collaboration project with Nike.

The luxury fashion house next month will launch nine editions of the coveted Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1” by Abloh and is currently accepting preorders ahead of the shoe’s release.

Located in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn is a warehouse-turned-exhibit that shines a light on all 47 eccentric sneaker designs, and WindowsWear got a closer look at the space. Just outside of the venue stands a giant statue of a man busting a breakdance pose, and it’s covered with the late creative’s signature gradient motif. As you step foot inside the space, you’re greeted with a full monogrammed wall, the other side which sits an oversized LED screen that has a video of shoes’ production process on loop.

Throughout the space, there are various installations that highlight each of the unique colorways. Each is numbered and either positioned either on a table or planted high on a wall to illustrate a floating effect. Various Albloh-isms grace the top of certain structures, one being his iconic question “Are you a tourist or a purist?” The back of the exhibition is home to a giant treehouse that comes fully decked out with LV’s monogram print and acts as a home for Abloh’s mood board, a glass case that has every component of the kicks laid out, a DJ booth with graphic-treated turntables and an LV-branded tire swing. When looking out from the upstairs part of the treehouse, you can see that each of the displays are intentionally positioned so that they form the French fashion house and Nike‘s merged insignia.

In addition, large glass boxes will be placed around New York City at Domino Park, Grand Central Terminal, South Street Seaport, Astor Place, Columbus Circle, Flatiron Plaza and Gansevoort Plaza displaying graphic globe sculptures tied to themes of the showcase.
