Loewe Introduces New Era in China Retail with Loewe Gaozhai Boutique

Loewe has inaugurated a significant chapter in its China retail narrative with the launch of its Loewe Gaozhai boutique, located within the Taikoo Li Chengdu retail complex.

Previously the residence of Qing dynasty scholar Gao Delin, the historic courtyard house boasts features such as grey bricks, intricately carved columns, and delicately tiled roofs. Integrated into the Taikoo Li project since its inception in 2014, the boutique spans two levels and covers an expansive 7,240 square feet.

Inspired by creative director Jonathan Anderson’s Casa Loewe retail concept, the stand-alone store seamlessly blends Spanish and Chinese influences. Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by an open-air garden framed by a pitched roof that beautifully frames the skyline. Inside, the airy interior showcases handmade ceramic tiles in a vibrant palette of blue, silver, purple, white, and green, complemented by luxurious materials such as marble, oak, and brass.

The ambiance is further enriched by Berin Club chairs, George Nakashima Mira chairs, and carpets inspired by the abstract landscapes of artist John Allen, all paired with Loewe’s signature leather benches, creating an inviting and intimate shopping environment.

Highlighting its offerings, the store features a dedicated display of the Loewe x Lynda Benglis jewelry collection, alongside designs unveiled at this year’s Salone del Mobile, including the Hafu Matsumoto woven Hammock bag and Kay Sekimachi’s reinterpretations of the Puzzle tote and Bucket bag.

Anderson personally curated art and craft pieces for the space, including works by the two Chinese finalists of the Loewe Craft Prize: Wanbing Huang’s fibrous hanging installation and Lu Bin’s stoneware vases. Additional artistic contributions include paintings by Walter Price and Cecelia Edefalk, ceramics by Laia Arqueros, and a bronze work by Lynda Benglis, featured in the brand’s spring 2024 collection runway show.

The Gaozhai boutique marks Loewe’s third outpost in Chengdu, adding to the brand’s existing network of 42 locations across mainland China.
