Jacquemus Opens First U.S. Store in New York: A New Chapter for the French Fashion House

Parisian fashion house Jacquemus has finally made its way to New York City, marking the brand’s first U.S. store opening. Located in the heart of SoHo, a neighborhood known for its vibrant mix of luxury fashion and cutting-edge design, the store’s debut signifies a major milestone for the brand as it continues to expand its global presence.

Founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus in 2009, the label is celebrated for its playful, minimalist approach to fashion, often characterized by bold colors, unique proportions, and Mediterranean-inspired aesthetics. Until now, Jacquemus had primarily focused its retail strategy in Europe, with successful boutiques in Paris and pop-ups in various global cities. The New York store marks the first permanent physical location outside of Europe, showing the brand’s growing appeal in the American market.

A Store Design Reflecting Jacquemus’ Vision

The new Jacquemus store, located at 143 Spring Street, reflects the brand’s distinctive blend of minimalism and whimsy. True to its DNA, the design of the store is an experience in itself.

Inside, visitors are greeted by an open, airy layout with curved, custom-designed furniture that mirrors Jacquemus’ famed oversized silhouettes and sculptural accessories. The color palette stays true to the brand’s roots, with earthy tones and bright pops of color that bring the Mediterranean spirit to the bustling streets of SoHo. Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, is designed to evoke a sense of escapism, transporting shoppers to a sunny, carefree landscape.

The two-story, 2,906-square-foot boutique is set within a 19th-century townhouse and designed by architectural firm OMA to evoke the “intimate feeling of being home,” a concept imagined by Jacquemus as if it were his own residence. The store’s design blends Jacquemus’ Parisian and provincial inspirations, featuring an oyster white facade and a spacious interior. The floors are made from Bourgogne stone, sourced from France and arranged in a pattern reminiscent of French castle pavements. Inside, white stucco contrasts with light wood, while banana-yellow curtains in the fitting rooms bring a burst of color. The staircase railings and merchandise racks are crafted from wrought iron by an Italian artisan, adding a bespoke touch.

The store showcases a blend of furniture designed by OMA, pieces acquired by Jacquemus, and special loans from Christie’s, such as two Frank Lloyd Wright wood side chairs from 1956. Among the mid-century pieces from the brand’s own collection are a Chaise Croisillon by Jean Royère and a ‘Slipper chair’ by Jean Dunand and Bertrand Lacroix, which once belonged to Madeleine Vionnet. Art displayed throughout the store includes lithographs by Aristide Maillol and Joan Miró, an engraving by Pierre Bonnard, and photographs by Peter Schlesinger and Wolfgang Tillmans. Additionally, bronze sculptures by Aristide Maillol, on loan from Galerie Dina Vierny, add to the space’s artistic atmosphere.

What to Expect Inside the New SoHo Location

The store offers a curated selection of Jacquemus’ ready-to-wear collections for men and women, alongside its highly coveted accessories. Fans of the brand can find its iconic Le Chiquito mini bags, wide-brimmed hats, and sculptural footwear. Additionally, exclusive pieces and U.S.-only limited-edition items will be available, making it a must-visit destination for fashion lovers and collectors alike.

In addition to the clothing and accessories, the store also embodies Jacquemus’ lifestyle approach. True to Simon Porte Jacquemus’ love for art, design, and the Mediterranean lifestyle, the store is not just a shopping destination but a creative space where fashion meets art and culture.

Jacquemus’ Expanding Global Influence

The opening of Jacquemus’ first U.S. store represents a significant leap in the brand’s global strategy. Over the years, the label has gained a cult following, particularly on social media, with its unique, Instagram-friendly designs appealing to a younger, fashion-forward audience. Celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, and Dua Lipa have frequently been seen sporting Jacquemus pieces, helping solidify its place in the international fashion scene.

New York, with its status as a global fashion capital and cultural melting pot, offers the perfect stage for Jacquemus to connect with an ever-growing U.S. clientele. The SoHo boutique positions Jacquemus among other luxury fashion heavyweights while allowing it to maintain the distinctive, independent spirit that has made the brand a favorite among fashion enthusiasts.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Jacquemus?

As Jacquemus continues to grow, the New York store is just one of many exciting developments for the brand. Simon Porte Jacquemus has teased the possibility of further expansion into new markets and categories, with hints of future collaborations, pop-ups, and even the potential launch of a beauty line.

With this new SoHo location, Jacquemus is not only cementing its presence in the U.S. but also continuing to challenge the conventions of luxury fashion by bringing its unique, playful approach to a new audience. Fashion enthusiasts and brand loyalists alike will undoubtedly keep a close watch on Jacquemus’ next moves as it continues to shape the future of contemporary fashion.
