Intu drives footfall with cashback app – Essential Retail

Shopping centre operator Intu has launched an in-store cashback app that continues its mission to introduce innovative technology-based initiatives to drive greater footfall into its 14 UK retail destinations.

The Pocket app can be used by shoppers in-store to earn up to 10% cashback rewards when making purchases from participating retailers and restaurants at the various Intu centres. In addition, retailers have the opportunity to target customers with bonus offers at certain locations on specific days.

The important aspect for retailers is the anonymised data that is collected by Pocket, which gives them access to real-time insights. This information is collated through the apps’ card-linking technology that can track shoppers’ transactions that have been made with the same cards in stores, across the Intu centres.

Trevor Pereira, commercial and digital director at Intu, said: “Online shopping data is used to build loyalty and drive sales, and we wanted to provide the same benefits to Intu’s customers and retailers. Intu Pocket enables us to reward shoppers for spending their money at an Intu centre and helps to increase footfall and sales to our retailers’ stores.”

Current participating retailers are offering between 2% and 10% cashback to customers using the app who can withdraw the cash into their bank accounts once a minimum of £5 has been built up.

The Pocket app follows other innovations from Intu that have included a shoppable visual search tool, queue-jumping apps, giant video games, and a number of virtual reality and augmented reality experiences that it has operated within its various malls.
