Happy Holidays from 1948!

Everybody knows that the holidays means shopping, and New York is the perfect city to spend the holidays and shop. The Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center, the skating rink at Central Park, the Rockettes Radio City’s legendary dance company show, Ballet season at the Lincoln Center, and so many other activities to do during the winter. It’s just magical.

As this is the season when stores sell almost 38% of their total revenue in a year, it is no surprise that stores put the biggest effort making a huge visual statement, and the best way to connect with the pedestrians are the windows.

Starting November 15th, Fifth Avenue turns into a river of people that walk between 57th and 34th Streets, some go shopping but most of them just enjoy experiencing the beautiful window displays.

Looking in our archives, we found beautiful pictures from 1948. It’s impressive how these windows still look so current and fresh. It’s clear the technologic limitation and the materials that they used during these times, but the creativity and imagination of these artists are still admirable.

Let’s take a travel back in time and take a look at these great pieces of art.
