Gucci’s Popping Up in Montauk This Summer

Fans of vintage know that the best way to find hidden gems is to spend hours digging through thrift sales around the country. But for the person who would prefer a curated experience, the next best thing is an appointment-only spot like Melet Mercantile. Found in the early 2000s by Bob Melet, who served as the director of vintage buying at Ralph Lauren, the Soho showroom has been a secret favorite among stylists and collectors. It’s so successful that it’s also spawned a Los Angeles outpost, plus a seasonal space in Montauk. And now Gucci has come calling, taking over the Montauk location for the month of July.

The shop, which has been Gucci-fied, is full of summer-ready clothes and accessories for both adults and kids, along with a selection of vintage finds. You’ll find the brand’s whimsical straw hatsstrawberry-print slides, and tennis T-shirts alongside vintage records and surf memorabilia. Every weekend, local businesses like John’s Drive-In and Morty’s Oyster Stand will be on-site serving up free food. In addition, Gucci is donating to area organizations such as A Walk On Water, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, and the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation.

To kick off the three-week residency, Gucci threw a party over the weekend and welcomed guests like Sienna Miller, model Elsa Hosk, and current Gucci Beauty face Dani Miller along with her band Surfbort. Up-and-coming musician Weyes Blood, a Kacey Musgraves favorite, performed several songs including (naturally) a Beach Boys cover. Scroll down to check out photos from the night, along with images of the store.
