Dolce & Gabbana Takes Over Harrods for the Holidays

Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana has spent up to £7m taking over all 23 shop windows at luxury department store Harrods ahead of Christmas.

In addition to adorning the windows of the London landmark, designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have installed an Italian-themed market selling branded paraphernalia, including sweatbands embroidered with ‘D&G loves London,’ T-shirts and key fobs. The duo have also created a capsule range of women’s and menswear and opened a fine-jewelery pop-up boutique.

Harrods first introduced its Christmas window takeover last year, in partnership with Burberry, but this year’s collaboration is the first to also include a multitude of exclusive products and merchandise created especially for the store.

The takeover launched on Thursday night with the lighting of a Dolce & Gabbana-branded tree and a fashion show starring young celebrities. It was staged in the store’s fabled food hall, for around 300 of the shop’s VIP clients and the press.

The window shoppers enjoying its designers reimagined as comic marionettes working in their many ateliers might note that the only thing missing in the festive tableaux is an accounts department showing them counting up the money.
