For almost 240 years, the house of Chaumet has long been the jeweler of choice for the highest echelons of society. Now, showcasing a selection of some of their rarest and most invaluable creations, the Parisian Maison presents the Chaumet in Majesty: Jewels of Sovereigns since 1780 exhibition. Taking place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, the collection is open to public view from now till 28 August 2019.
Comprising around 250 exquisitely designed pieces, many of them on loan from prestigious museums, grand families and royalty, the exhibition will mainly focus on the historical journey of that icon of feminine beauty and power — the tiara. First established as a symbol of royal stature by Napoléon and Josephine, the cult jewel soon grew in prominence, gaining popularity within a wider circle of nobles and the affluent across continents. Transforming down the ages with changing fashion, it became an emblem of romantic allure and artistic grace.
In addition to the ever-magical tiara, the collection presents a range of historical gems, jewels and watches by Chaumet, including a magnificent pair of gold wristwatches, studded with emeralds and pearls, belonging to Princess Augusta of Bavaria.
Such a remarkable collection deserved an equally exceptional inauguration. And so, the French label invited a select group of celebrities on 11 July for a special viewing party. These included HSH Prince Albert II of the hosting principality, and the exhibition curators and royal courts experts Stéphane Bern and Christophe Vachaudez.
International movie stars and models such as Natalie Portman, Bérénice Bejo, Natalia Vodianova, Song Hye Kyo, Tsubasa Honda, Salma Abu Deif, Rym Saidi and Gala Gonzalez also graced the occasion. Showing their love for Chaumet, each wore unique creations from the Maison.
