A Message to Today’s WindowsWear LIVE! Attendees

Hi team, I’ve been thinking about our meeting yesterday, what what said and what was not said in regards to the troubling times we find ourselves in, and have decided that I will not be hosting today’s WindowsWear LIVE!

Today many industries, including the one we work in, are observing Blackout Tuesday.

A moment to reflect, support, and listen to black communities and black industry leaders and stand in solidarity with them.

A moment to pause, and not adhere to the ethos of “business as usual” or “we have to push forward” over empathy for human beings being systematically hunted for the color of their skin.

As a latin woman, as a vocal ally who’s friends are being tear gassed and shot at, I can not in good conscience lead our conversation today.

It’s my personal belief that not only is this insanely insensitive but can be strategically damaging for a brand we’ve all worked hard to build. It is also my personal belief that moving forward with today would be morally bankrupt.

I think I’ve always done a good job of letting you all know where I stand in regards to matters that are important to me.

I don’t hide my advocacy or shy away from uncomfortable subject matter in the office or quite frankly, in my life in general.

I also hope that WindowsWear, a company that values its members and touts themselves as a community understands that right now the right move, even if just for today though I hope not, is to express solidarity for another community of people in pain.

Some of whom are WindowsWear members. Some of whom could be in the future.

I am aware that there is no rule book here, I am not pretending to have answers to any of this. I am however firm in my belief that when the dust settles I want to be on the right side of history. I owe that to my friends and family and I hope that WindowsWear stands in solidarity with that as well.
