This holiday season, Saks Fifth Avenue’s iconic windows received the ultimate Disney makeover. In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the two brands are putting on a show, called Once Upon a Holiday, which includes 14 animated holiday window displays that line Fifth Avenue.
The vignettes include Snow White dancing among the woodland creatures, the seven dwarfs Heigh-Ho!-ing home from a days work in the diamond caves, and the Wicked Queens mischievous trickery with the infamous red apple. Each window depicts a different scene from the film, beautifully translating the iconic story into real life delights. Also new to the windows this year is a 3D layering technique which incorporates original artwork from the film into the backdrops for each display.
“From initial discussions to the final design and implementation, the entire partnership takes approximately one year. We’ve been working with Disney on this holiday experience since 2016! The team brainstormed themes before finalizing concepts in early spring,” says Mark Briggs, Chief Creative Officer. Over the summer the windows are created in an off-site location then brought to the New York flagship, and rebuilt into the window frames. “It’s a time-consuming process but one we take much pride in. We want our customers to feel like they are part of our holiday spectacle, and this year’s window displays, light show and holiday decor will not disappoint.”
As if that weren’t enough, in Saks’ 49th Street and 50th Street windows, four legendary designers – Alberta Ferretti, Naeem Khan, Monique Lhuillier, and Marchesa have created one-of-a-kind fairytale gowns for a 21st century Snow White. The luxury dresses are set against a fantasy forest backdrop. Watch the fashion designers explore Snow White’s anatomy of style and discover WindowsWears peek at Saks’ one-of-a-kind holiday windows.
