The New Rimowa Store in Milan is a Plaudit for Metal and Stone

MILAN – Designed in collaboration with Italian architect Marco Costanzi, the new Rimowa Milan Sant’Andrea binds together the DNA of the German luggage brand and the finest local materials. This points to how looking at space and its location before choosing its design elements can make a retail store pop, just as in an established shopping neighborhood such as the renowned Quadrilatero della moda.

The storefront opens up with vertical plates made out of galvanized metal – the most recognizable connection to Rimowa’s signature suitcases – that serve as a display for the luggage collection.

Then, as a reference to the facades of the Ambrosian city and to make the store perfectly match with the geography its location, a floor made out of stone was laid all across the 80-sq-m venue.

The minimalist choices behind the design of the Rimowa Sant’Andrea store show how luxury retail spaces don’t need excessive ornamentation to serve the finest and yet functional shopping experience.
