1 Utama launches Korean zone – Inside Retail Asia

The first Korean-themed retail zone in Malaysia is being soft launched at 1 Utama Shopping Centre.

Located in the mall’s new extension, the four-level, 80,000sqft “District K” zone is focusing on sports tourism, entertainment and F&B outlets – and will include a performance and hologram theatre, augmented entertainment, and popular Korean restaurant & beauty brands.

The retail zone will be fully completed by the end of the year, with an investment value of RM120 million (US$29.35 million).

“With the constant change in consumer expectations and the rise of technology especially in gaming and entertainment offering experiential participation of players, shopping malls have to be agile and adaptive to stay ahead of the curve in this fast-changing landscape”, said 1 Utama director Tan Sri Teo Chiang Kok.

“Within this scenario, malls constantly strive to offer new and different retailers and merchandise, F&B and entertainment in order to attract shoppers.

“The soft launch of District K spearheads the goal to open up opportunities to Korean retailers in Malaysia and attract even more tourists.”
