US eyewear retailer Warby Parker has launched an augmented reality app which allows users to virtually try on glasses.
Its new Virtual Try-On feature, which was added to its app earlier this week, will utilise Apple Face ID technology on the iPhone X, XR and XS devices to superimpose its range of glasses on the user’s face in selfie mode.
3D images of the frames are virtually mapped to customers’ unique facial features “resulting in a lifelike fitting room experience that reflects realistic frame color, texture, size and fit”.
Shoppers can then opt to try the glasses on at home via the retailer’s free home try-on service, purchase the glasses directly from the app, or simply save them for later.
It already uses the iPhone X’s “True Depth” capability, launching a service which measured a customer’s facial features and recommended glasses suited to them.
