Business Briefs: Walmart VR, smart speakers, highest-selling album

NEW YORK –

Walmart is aiming to give the in-store experience from the comfort of home. Bloomberg is reporting Walmart is developing a way to shop online through virtual reality. The retail giant recently filed a patent for the technology. It’s believed to allow customers to wander around a 3D store and add things to a virtual cart.

Competition in the smart speaker market is heating up. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, Amazon’s Alexa is still the leader, shipping 41 percent of all smart speakers in the second quarter. But Google’s sales are ticking up, now claiming 28 percent of the market.

There’s a new name atop the list of highest selling albums of all-time. This week the RIAA certified The Eagles’ “Greatest Hits (1971-1975)” album 38 times platinum. That bumped Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” to the second spot at 33 times platinum.
