Visual merchandising is a wonderful way for a store to make a product come alive, but sometimes just the product alone can be a bit boring. Props are designed to help with this. They are used to create a story of the product and even the brand’s or store’s concept. They help in showing how particular items can or should be used.
Some stores go above and beyond for the visual diplays and create their own props. Anthropologie is a store that makes extravagant visual displays for their windows and interior displays. All Anthropologie stores have some similarity to them, but not one store is exactly the same. They want each store to have its own uniqueness to them that also caters to the customer in each demographic. Customers in New York are not the same in Virginia or Florida. In order to make this happen, each store has a visual merchandising team who are in charge of creating all the displays in the store. Each display is made by hand by the employees, using found objects.
Bergdorf Goodman has been known to have some of the best window displays on 5th Avenue. They own 3 warehouses to store all of their props so they can recycle and reuse them throughout the years. Most of Bergdorf’s windows are inspired by the recent runway fashion shows.
Fendi is a very graphic brand, so their props in the displays are very bold and colorful. Every single part of their displays are wll thought out, nothing being a mistake.
Coach is a wonderful brand for showing their talents when it comes to the props they use and recreate. Their flagship store, located on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, New York, is the home of Rexy the Dinosaur. This dinosaur prop is the only one in the world and it is made of 400 coach bags. Coach does an excellent job with visual displays. They are creative and show off ther heristage very well. Coach uses all types of ojbects to create an interesting window display, for example, for September’s window, they refurbished old payphones and made them, Coach quality.
Louis Vuitton is another great brand for having fantastic visual displays. Their goal is to have displays so amazing, they have to clean their windows multiple times a day because so many people are putting their faces up to them to see their masterpieces closer. Each display you stumble upton is pieced together by hand by an incredibly creative team.
Christian Louboutin has a very vivid imagination and the visual displays for this brand most certainly reflect that. This brand is very detail oriented and they do not take shortcuts when it comes to the props they use. They build many of their own props as well, just to make sure they are exactly how they need them to be.
