On Thursday, March 9th, Hermès hosted a gathering for the unveiling of the Spring windows. Hermès worked with artist Tschabalala Self for the season’s display.
Tschabalala Self is an American artist best known for her depictions of Black female figures using paint, fabric, and discarded pieces of her previous works. Though she uses mixed media, all of her works are on canvas and employ a “painting language.” Tschabalala Self creates collages of various items that she has collected over time and sews them together which can be seen throughout this collaboration.
The elements in the display appear from a scene of the dining table. A various set of materials sculpting a three-dimensional shape in warm tones and additional fabrics layered to create a landscape with depth and details while of course celebrating the heritage of Hermès.
